not to be a person of color, but white people really got me feeling like i somehow can’t be a poc and lgbt at the same time. like there is SOOOOO much racism in the lgbt community (antiblackness especially) and erasure of lgbt poc that my brain literally slips sometimes and associates being gay with whiteness because you pea-brained motherfuckers never fucking show us anything else. i’m friends with someone who, before figuring out who they were, literally didn’t think they could actually be part of the community because “only white people could be gay.” that was his thought process. i sometimes feel “white” for wanting to wear pride merch or writing about being gay/trans rather than about being a poc as if those two things can’t coexist. at this point, i feel seriously alienated from the community in general… and that infuriates me! this community was literally formed by people of color! US! how the fuck were you all able to whitewash this?

if white people want to reblog this just to like spread awareness or whatever i guess that’s alright, but seriously, don’t even think about commenting. this post doesn’t need your input.

I tried my best and I hope this is okay. It was a very rough sketch, but I managed to turn it into a good-ish colored image! My color wheel is very limited, so I tried my best to get a good skin tone that wouldn’t be racist and I hope it turned out okay. I don’t wanna upset anyone. Enjoy!! - A white trans guy who wants everyone to feel loved and welcome no matter their skin color. <3

I had this whole post credit scene planned out for Endgame, where we would see all the new or yet to be seen in theatres superheros receive and open a package waiting for them at home, like at the end of Homecoming when Peter finds a package on his bed from Tony, containing his suit. So all these superheros would open the package waiting for them and in there would be a homemade superhero suit made by Tony Stark. That way all the superheros ever shown in the MCU would’ve made an appearance, a cameo at least, and it would’ve shown how vast the MCU is and it would’ve been beautiful. So we would’ve seen Matt Murdock finding this in his office, Jessica Jones just throwing it in the bin because “I thought there’d be booze in there”, and I don’t know anything about the Agents of Shield or anyone else but we’d see them all have their new suits too. And we would’ve seen other people from all around the globe that we don’t know yet and maybe never will, but they would have had their homemade suits too because that’s what Tony’s ending was in my head. Hanging up his own suit to live peacefully with his family but “tracking” all the superheros out there and making them their own suits to make sure they fight safely. Shaping the new generations of Avengers.

It could’ve been his legacy.

Exactly! Going from willingly exposing himself as the first public superhero to people rising all around the world to reveal themselves as superheros and stand up for the good fights - that’s what Tony did, that’s his legacy, that’s how he shaped the world. He created a whole planet of superheros, one that will be known everywhere in the universe and no longer seen as “that shitty hole” of weak people.

Tony did not only inspire villains to come out of the shadows, as they wanted us to believe.

And they could even have had Tony saying that last final line: “We are Avengers” (going from I am Iron Man to We are Avengers, and that, Russos, is proof that Tony’s arc from selfish to selfless is complete.)

Hurt/Comfort is such an interesting thing. It’s basically an entire genre of fanfiction. I’d argue it satisfies a very basic, vital need–the same way that horror satisfies the basic need to be scared in a safe, controllable space.

And yet it doesn’t really have an equivalent outside of fan culture. "Tearjerkers” can sometimes come close, they’re probably the closest thing to a mainstream hurt/comfort genre that there is. But those types of books and movies don’t usually focus on the “comfort” aspect in the same way, and don’t make use of tension and release.

I think every good hurt/comfort fic makes use of tension and release just as horror does, whether the writer is consciously aware of it or not. Though of course the tension and release in h/c comes from different sources than in horror. Instead of anticipating something frightening, you anticipate the intimacy and/or validation that comes from the “comfort” part you know is eventually coming. That’s what provides release of the tension built up during the “hurt” scenes.

I could write a goddamned essay about this it’s so fascinating.

This is a great definition/analysis of it! I’ve been interested in this too. It’s always been my favorite fanfiction genre. It’s to the point where reading just angst is not enough, there is something left unfulfilled if the character does not have the ‘tension and release’ and just remains under whatever stressor at the end. I think part of the reason I like it so much, is often in mainstream media characters DO NOT have that ‘healing moment’, shall we say. Too often, there may be a sad/traumatic/stressful event and the character is shown to just pick themselves up from it and move on like nothing happened. Which is not realistic as we all know, so I think the hurt/comfort genre in fanfiction is a kind of a response to that. The “filling in the blanks” of when a character needs a moment of healing or validation to continue onward, because that in a sense is more relatable then the “super hero” character who can move through it like nothing damaged them.

imo h/c is also built on the trust between two or more people. that when one of them falls there WILL be someone to validate their pain, soothe their wounds (physical or emotional), and not only pick them back up but remain with them even when they’re back on they’re feet. it’s not hurt/recovery; it’s not the super-human, masochist bullshit mentioned above.

h/c builds a world in which we (as readers and in part as the parts of characters we identify with) are given permission to fall apart. h/c is the freedom to show pain because you know that there are people who will notice you being hurt – and will do their best to not only comfort you, but will also validate your reasons for being hurt, take your side completely, and help you get to the place you need to be to recover.
